Big Data Course is Really Worth It?

I am taking big data course as suggested by one of my friend before going for learning data science. As part of this training, I will work on the various Hadoop components like MapReduce, Apache Hive and Apache Sqoop. I will have to work with Sqoop to import data from relational database management system like MySQL data into HDFS. I need to deploy Hive for summarizing data, querying and analysis. I have to convert SQL queries using HiveQL for deploying MapReduce on the transferred data. I will gain considerable proficiency in Hive and Sqoop after the completion of this project. So, I want to know whether i am going in right path or not so, kindly suggest.

Closing, as nothing to do with Liquibase. I suggest looking in Forums related to the technologies you mentioned.
