Error connecting to MySQL with liquibase and jdbc

I have the exact same issue as this post:
http://forum.liquibase.org/topic/mac-xampp-mysql-liquibase

But the solution for this has not worked for me. Skip-networking has always been commented out in my my.cnf file, but I still receive this:
Liquibase Update Failed: Communications link failure

There must be some MySQL configuration that is not allowing me to connect.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
